Introduction
What’s X Acceleration Engine?
X Acceleration Engine is a media management and delivery platform built for larger, more demanding deployments. It uses a lower-level compiled programming language and a redesigned enterprise architecture to provide higher performance, lower memory use, better stability, richer operational features, and predictable multi-server scaling.
Engine was developed as a separate product because continuing to extend Codec’s original architecture would constrain these goals and make major architectural changes riskier for existing Codec customers. A separate implementation allowed the backend, database model, API, UI, services, workflows, and licensing to be redesigned together without forcing disruptive changes onto Codec installations.
Codec licenses remain valid, and Codec continues in long-term maintenance with bug fixes. Migration to Engine is optional.
Tip
A Separate Product: Engine has its own backend, database model, API, UI, services, workflows, and license key.
Engine and Codec at a Glance
| Area | Codec | Engine |
|---|---|---|
| Implementation | Original Codec stack | Different lower-level compiled language |
| Architecture | Original product architecture | Redesigned enterprise multi-server architecture |
| Management | Established workflows | New UI, permissions, monitoring, API, and bulk tools |
| Development | Long-term maintenance and bug fixes | Active product development |
| License | Existing Codec key | Separate Engine key and plan |

Pricing
Engine uses capacity- and feature-based plans. Large-scale customers place greater demands on software performance, stability, functionality, testing, and long-term maintenance. Technical support for high-capacity and multi-server deployments also requires more time because incidents can involve deployment-specific networking, storage, hardware, capacity, and operational workflows.
This pricing strategy aligns plan capacity with the engineering and support required for each deployment while allowing smaller installations to select a lower-capacity plan. See License Plans and Limits for the available tiers. The License page and current customer order are authoritative.
Common Questions
Is Engine Just Codec With a New Interface?
No. Engine is a separate implementation with a different programming language, architecture, data model, API, and services.
Why Does Engine Define More Limits Than Codec?
Per-machine limits make capacity and multi-server scaling predictable. They do not change Codec licenses.
What Happens to Codec?
Existing Codec licenses remain valid. Codec continues in long-term maintenance with bug fixes.
Must Existing Customers Migrate?
No. Engine requires a separate key and migration is optional. A seven-day fully featured Engine trial is available.
Can Both Products Run on One Server?
Yes, when ports do not conflict and the server has enough resources. Preserve Codec configuration if rollback is required.
